Were You a Booker on Dr. Seuss’ Birthday?

And now a scene from “Driving Home From Target:  A Suburban Mom Documentary”:

Ultra G:  Do you think the water’s going to be cold at swimming tomorrow?”

Me:  Not sure, honey.  It’s heated, but it is February.

Super A:  It’s March, Mom.

Me:  That’s what I meant.  It’s March.  And it’s cold.  And I just want a car with heat on the driver’s side so my hands won’t turn blue.

(Insert silence and children looking at one another.)

Ultra G:  Yeah, okay.  But do you think the water will be cold?

Me:  Probably, but you’ll be fine.

Mommy Bloggers Mean Business.

I got pitched yesterday after someone heard my interview on Blog Talk Radio.  She was asking for sponsorship to a huge blogging conference, and while I couldn’t grant that, I did start to develop a dialogue with her that will result in trading guest posts and, I’m sure, pleasant emails and shout-outs in the future.  While I read her email it struck me again how blogging is serious business.

Not this blog, obviously, but for a lot of “mommy bloggers” blogging is a strategic, well-planned, well-researched endeavor.  They’re business women, make no mistake.  Sure, they may spend the majority of the day in pajama pants jeans and a sweatshirt fashionable shirt, but if you’re looking for pushovers, these women are. not. it.

Totally Terrific Kale Chips

One of the healthy eating inspirations that came our way last month was from the research of Dr. Terry Wahls, a physician who was diagnosed with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and worked her way back to health by transforming her diet.  While I’m not so sure, Dr. Wahls would be so excited about how we make our kale chips, I’m certain she would applaud our effort to actually eat kale.

Kale is a leafy green vegetable much like collared greens and cabbage.  Its strong taste definitely takes some getting used to, but the fact that it’s loaded with great vitamins, minerals, and cell repairing chemicals makes it much easier to stomach.  In addition to the kale chips that we make, we also dehydrate it and use it like parsley or spices in soups.  No matter how you use it, it’s a great addition to your diet.

My Extra Day.

Giraffe Footprint Craft

It’s closing in on the end of Leap Day, our gift of 24-hours from Mother Nature.  I must admit that I had visions of waking up late and eating chocolate and cookies for breakfast, but, alas, no such luck.  It was a dreary day here in the Northeast; rainy, cold, foggy, and generally miserable.  And despite my mad desire to just curl up in bed with a book and snooze all day, I managed to be rather productive.

I say that as if I don’t have another four hours of work ahead of me tonight.

One of the highlights was being featured as a guest on my friend Barbara’s Blog Talk Radio show this afternoon.  Barbara is like sunshine on a dreary day and, although I was dreadfully nervous beforehand, I had a wonderful time chatting with her.  She has an amazingly uplifting blog called The Corner on Character that is definitely worth checking out.  You can listen to the interview here.

What Are You Going To Do With It?

Super Dad and Sweet Pea (Photo by the amazingly talented Nathan Lawrenson)

Will you climb a mountain, paint a picture, dance like a fool, laugh until your sides hurt, eat chocolate for breakfast, be brave, adopt a pup, cook a favorite dish, read a book, clean the house, hum a tune, teach a child, do laundry, run a mile, run a dozen miles, take a photo, call your mom, send some flowers, rock a baby, kiss your honey, write a story, buy a new pair of jeans, shuffle around in your favorite slippers, watch tv all day, clean the car, run some errands, play some music, dream a dream, go on an adventure or…….what?
